North­ern Cap­i­tals play­ing with Fire

After post­ing a pair of pre­sea­son wins over the Fraser Val­ley Rush, the North­ern Cap­i­tals are in Cal­gary this week to try to douse their tour­na­ment op­po­nents in the Cal­gary Firestarte­r Show­case.

The Cap­i­tals, who play in the B.C. Fe­male Triple-A Midget Hockey League share a pool in the 16-team tour­na­ment with Cal­gary Fire, Prince Al­bert North­ern Bears and Notre Dame Hounds. The Cap­i­tals open against the Fire Thurs­day night.

On Fri­day, the Cap­i­tals face Notre Dame, then on Satur­day will play Prince Al­bert.

The Cap­i­tals be­gan their exhibition sea­son last week­end with a 3-2 win over the Rush in Wil­liams Lake. Hai­ley Armstrong net­ted the win­ner in that one with just 29 sec­onds left. Destiny Bautista and Brette Ker­ley also scored for the Caps. Ca­dence Petit­clerc-Crosby went the dis­tance on goal for the Prince George-based Cap­i­tals.

On Sun­day in 100 Mile House they de­feated the Rush 3-1, with goals from Bautista, Brooke Norkus and Pyper Alexan­der.

The 30-game BCFMHL sea­son starts with the league show­case on Oct. 4 in the Lower Main­land.
