IIO in­ves­ti­gat­ing af­ter man in­jured

The In­de­pen­dent In­ves­ti­ga­tions Of­fice has been called in to in­ves­ti­gate, af­ter a man suf­fered a head in­jury dur­ing an ar­rest in Prince George on Thurs­day.

Ac­cord­ing to an RCMP state­ment, Prince George RCMP plain­clothes of­fi­cers wit­nessed what they be­lieved to be a drug trans­ac­tion hap­pen­ing in the 1100-block of Third Av­enue.

A uni­formed of­fi­cer who was nearby at­tempted to ar­rest a 28-year-old Prince George man, who fled on a bi­cy­cle to the rail yard along First Av­enue prior to be­ing ar­rested. One of the of­fi­cers who wit­nessed the ini­tial in­ci­dent at­tempted to stop the man on his bike, and dur­ing the at­tempt to stop the sus­pect, he suf­fered a head in­jury. The man was take to hos­pi­tal, and was de­ter­mined to have se­ri­ous, but not life-threat­en­ing, in­juries, the po­lice state­ment said.

The IIO was called in to in­ves­ti­gate whether po­lice ac­tion or in­ac­tion lead to the man’s in­jury.
