Poster drives fans to new-look stadium
International event reflected in clever design created by second-year Capilano University student
The 2012 Vancouver International Auto Show returns to the new B.C. Place Stadium this spring, and this year’s official poster, designed by a local Capilano University student, reflects that return, quite literally.
Becky Joy’s Parallels features the glowing new-look stadium, lit up at night, across False Creek, with the reflection of a sports car in the water below.
“B.C. Place reflects many similar qualities to that of the new vehicles featured in the show: super-sleek, modern design and cutting-edge technology,” Joy said of her winning design.
“These parallels make it a perfect location for Vancouver to host such a magnetic and vibrant showcase of the auto industry’s newest triumphs.”

Joy’s design captured the 2012 show’s buzz around its return to a recently renovated B.C. Place — Paul Mcgeachie
Auto Show executive director Paul Mcgeachie said the judging team was excited by Joy’s design, which suited the event’s updated location perfectly.
“The judges felt that Joy’s design captured the 2012 show’s buzz around its return to a recently renovated B.C. Place,” said Mcgeachie.
“The design is clever, with a striking focus in the design elements on B.C. Place.”
In conjunction with the New Car Dealers of British Columbia, the Student Poster Design Competition has featured students from Capilano University’s Applied Arts Program (IDEA) for the past six years.
The competition provides second-year students with the opportunity to create a design that has a real-world application, and the potential to see their design featured as a poster for one of North America’s premier automotive exhibition events.
For her winning design, Joy will receive the $1,000 Chairman’s Prize. Second and third place runners-up, Allison Chambers and Cameron Sollows, will also receive cash prizes of $500 each.
