Mr. Mayor, don’t dabble in issues beyond your control
Mayor Gregor Robertson is playing to his fan base. He always seems to fail to look beyond the surface of the issue.
His favoured nation of bicycle activists would struggle without the petroleum industry. The rubbers, plastics, metals, paints, manufacturing equipment and distribution chains would all disappear or become extremely expensive and prohibitive to produce if the oil stopped flowing. Most of his activist followers would no longer have work because more than likely their employer or business depends on the petroleum industry directly or indirectly.
To the best of my recollection, from social studies and political science, a municipal government’s legislative duties don’t fall into national resources management. Vancouver, more than likely, doesn’t even have the jurisdiction to enforce any legislation on our federal waterways.
Mr. Robertson, please be a municipal mayor, not an MP or even an MLA. Please stop wasting our municipal tax dollars on agendas that suit your personal activist agenda.
