The Province

Last lap before the big race

- — John Stanton

Race week yields a gradual easing up of your mileage, allowing your body to disperse the residual fatigue products carried from one workout to the other, so come race day, your legs will have that extra snap to ensure your best performance. The most important day, is today, two days prior to the race — take the day off running, and go to bed early enjoying the extra sleep. It’s your best way to prepare for the race. Remember, nothing you do now will help you, but everything you do, can hinder your performance. Quality training takes at least two weeks to improve your performance, but overtraining can affect your next day performance. So the best advice is to relax, and enjoy the rest. Visualization is a key part of the week as you relax and think about the goals you have set for marathon weekend. Join in the fun Saturday morning at 9 a.m. for the Free Friendship Run from the Denman Running Room. Come and meet The Province team. Enjoy the energy and synergy of the group. I’ll provide you some last-minute tips of encouragement for race day.
