Torres ban appealed

The NHL Players Association is appealing Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres’25-game suspension on the grounds that it is excessive based on NHL senior vice-president Brendan Shanahan’s previous rulings. Torres received the punishment — tied for the second-longest in league history — for a blow to the head delivered to the Chicago Blackhawks’marian Hossa during a first-round playoff game.
