Three things to watch
1 Salgado sensation
In a matter of weeks, Omar Salgado has gone from answering questions about loan rumours to becoming one of the Whitecaps’ top threats. The 18-year-old looks like a completely different player this season. He’s grown into his body, and he’s grown up. He’s also found a home on the left wing, where he can run at players and whip in leftfooted crosses.
2 Rochat’s a rock
Alain Rochat returned from a knee injury in Wednesday’s Canadian Championship game in Edmonton, and the SwissCanadian reminded everyone what they were missing. He was a picture of calm at centre back and dropped a handful of beautiful balls into Eric Hassli and Davide Chiumiento. Expect him to return to his usual spot at left-back.
3 Beware the Wondo
Chris Wondolowsk i burned the Caps twice a month ago and he’s continued his torrid pace. Wondo leads MLS with 10 goals and he’s formed a great partnership with the more physical Steven Lenhart, who can also finish. His goals against the Caps came off a throwin and free kick, so defending set pieces will be front of mind for Martin Rennie’s side.
