Nude rally zapped
MONTREAL — A student demonstration against tuition hikes planned for Thursday night and calling for participants to shed their clothes has been modified.
The original invitation to student protesters called for them to show up and shed their clothes because “[Premier] Charest and [Education Minister] Beauchamp continue to ignore us, because [Mayor Gerald] Tremblay does not want any more masked protesters, because our peace officers need new distractions, because it’s spring, because nudity is catchy.”
However the invitation was later amended to state that the march would take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and that since police “would not tolerate nudity,” underwear was part of the dress code.
According to Article 174 of the Criminal Code, being naked in a public place is an offence.
