Man, 36, stabbed to death
Police are looking for the public’s help in their investigation into the stabbing death of a man after an altercation early Sunday in Maple Ridge.
Cpl. Adam Macintosh of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said the slain man is known to police, but the 36-year-old’s name isn’t being released pending notification of next of kin.
“Obviously, it’s Mother’s Day — some pretty tragic news to be provided to a mother this day,” said Macintosh.
“Right now, we’re looking for anybody who may have seen or heard an altercation this morning between 2 and 3 a.m. at the intersection of Mcintosh Avenue and 223 Street,” he said.
Police were called at 2:30 a.m. to the Ridge Meadows Hospital where the man died of his wounds.
The investigation led police to a nearby apartment building. Police are still trying to determine the connection to the stabbing.
A vehicle associated with the victim was also seized.
Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to contact the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
In Surrey, meanwhile, a 40-year-old man was shot outside the Legion in the 13500-block 106th Avenue at 4:24 a.m. on Sunday.
RCMP Sgt. Bob Pinkewicz said the victim was taken to hospital and was in stable condition.
He called the incident a “targeted shooting,” saying the victim may know the shooter.
The investigation is ongoing.
