PNE Prize Home winners will have to wait to see it
Despite Thursday’s thunder and lightning, the Pacific National Exhibition’s 2013 Prize Home looked as luxurious and comfortable as ever when Dean Cockerill of Gibsons was announced as this year’s lucky winner in a live televised draw.
And while the 49-year-old wasn’t there to receive the call that notified him he had won, his wife Dianna certainly was.
“How’s the weather over there?” asked PNE CEO and president Mike McDaniel in a televised phone call to the Cockerills.
“Oh, it’s pouring, for heaven’s sake,” Cockerill responded.
The home’s designer and reality TV darling Jillian Harris (The Bachelorette, Love It Or List It Vancouver) also chimed in on the call.
“Wouldn’t you love to be curled up beside a beautiful custom-built, doublesided fireplace right now? Just sipping a glass of wine?” Harris teased.
“Oh, now you’re talking my language,” the woman responded.
McDaniel then broke the news that Cockerill’s husband had won this year’s $1.2-million home and prize package, and the response was every bit as thunderous as the skies above the home.
“What? What? Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Ohhh!” exclaimed Cockerill in a long, drawn-out breath.
Dean Cockerill, who was away in Manitoba at the time of the draw, was announced the winner on Thursday evening in a televised draw on the front steps of the highly desired home, currently sitting at its temporary location on the PNE Fairgrounds.
While winners are usually picked up by a limo immediately following the draw so that they can visit their new home the same day, arrangements will be made for the Cockerills to visit once Dean has returned to B.C.
The swanky home measures 3,000 square feet and is described as a “traditional home with plenty of modern twists.”
Classical architecture combines with state-of-the-art fixtures and appliances in the drool-worthy home that includes floor-to-ceiling windows.
A modern walk-in wine cellar flanks a crisp black kitchen, and there is outdoor space on both levels, not to mention an indoor/outdoor fireplace.
The home will be relocated to the popular Interior ski resort Sun Peaks.
Along with keys to the home, the Cockerills have won a $2,500 grocery package from Marketplace IGA, a year’s worth of housecleaning services, and a one-year subscription to The Province.
A total of 105,909 tickets were sold this year.
