Tsumura’s three to see

- — Howard Tsumura

Here’s our look at three of the top live events this weekend in the world of university and high school 1 sports. It might be the best sports rivalry in the entire tri-city region. It’s certainly one of the blue-chip clashes in all of B.C. high school football. It’s Port Coquitlam’s No. 2-ranked Terry Fox Ravens lining up against the host Centennial Centaurs of Coquitlam on the gridiron at Percy Perry Stadium (Friday, 7:30 p.m.). Throw everything out the window 2 when these two rivals meet. The final two days of the UBC Thunder birds’ three-day men’s pre-season basketball tournament takes place at War Memorial Gymnasium. It’s a great way to get current with three local Canada West teams. Friday: 3 p.m. — Concordia (Montreal) vs. Thompson Rivers; 5 p.m. — Concordia (Portland) vs. Victoria; 7 p.m. — UBC vs. Wilfrid Laurier. Saturday: 3 p.m. — TRU vs. Concordia (Portland); 5 p.m. — Victoria vs. Laurier; 7 p.m. — UBC vs. Concordia 3 (Montreal). The two reigning B.C. high school football champs, each sitting at No. 1 in their respective tiers, play out of conference on Saturday (2 p.m.) in Tsawwassen. Victoria’s Triple A Mt. Douglas Rams clash with the host, Double A South Delta Sun Devils. Rams’ running back Marcus Davis is one of the stars of the Class of 2014, while Sun Devils’ QB Lucas Kirk holds the same distinction on the Class of 2015.
