Missed opportunity
In elevating political games above the real games in Sochi, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has denied himself an incredible experience and squandered an opportunity to act in the true spirit of the Olympics.
Beyond the medals, the celebration and the excitement, the enduring legacy of the Games lies in reminding the world that there is no “us” and “them” — humanity belongs to a single family.
Thomas Bach, president of the IOC, chastised Harper and other small-minded leaders who shunned the Games, noting that “if you don’t have a dialogue, it’s a missed opportunity. A dialogue is always better that talking about each other. It’s always better to talk with each other.”
