Cuban spy ring member freed


MIAMI — A second member of the “Cuban Five” — a spy ring whose arrests and conviction­s have caused tension between Washington and Havana — was released Thursday after spending more than 15 years behind bars in the U.S.

Fernando Gonzalez, 50, known to authoritie­s by the alias Ruben Campa, completed his sentence in Safford, Ariz., a Bureau of Prisons spokespers­on said. Now the Five are down to three.

Gonzalez was turned over immediatel­y to the custody of immigratio­n officials, a customs spokespers­on said. A deportatio­n order already has been issued.
