Benson set to play Friday against Kelowna

- — Steve Ewen

Prized prospect Tyler Benson is slated to suit up for the Vancouver Giants Friday when they visit the Kelowna Rockets.

Benson, an Edmonton native picked by Vancouver first overall in the 2013 WHL bantam draft, has spent this season in Kelowna, playing for the Pursuit of Excellence hockey academy Under-18 prep team.

“I’m excited to play in the place I’ve been living all year, ”said the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Benson, 15, a left-winger.

At last count, Benson had 35 goals and 91 points in 46 games with POE. Their season ends this weekend, making him eligible to join the Giants full time for the remainder of their schedule.

In three games so far as a call-up with the Giants, Benson has no points and a plus-one rating.
