Injured hiker lifted to safety
A hiker was rescued by helicopter after breaking his ankle on Hollyburn Mountain on Saturday.
North Shore Rescue was called to the mountain by B.C. Ambulance Service shortly after 2 p.m.
Two Cypress Mountain ski patrollers and two B.C. Parks personnel located the man, who had slipped and fallen while hiking on a marked trail, splinted his ankle and got him to the summit, where they were met by a helicopter.
The man, in his 40s, was taken off the mountain to a waiting ambulance.
North Shore Rescue spokesman Doug Pope said it’s lucky the helicopter was able to take off before the weather turned. “Otherwise, it would have been a very long and arduous call to stretcher this guy off the mountain,” he said.
