Twitter spoof targets ‘boring’ Flames rookie

- JOANNE IRELAND POSTMEDIA NEWS

EDMONTON — The prankish producer of the Boring Sean Monahan Twitter account remains anonymous, even inside the Calgary Flames’ locker-room where the real Sean Monahan resides.

It is not like the NHL rookie-of-theyear candidate hasn’t tried to find the culprit behind the parody account. He just can’t get anyone to confess to the tweets, some of which go like this:

“The NHL trade deadline is next Wednesday. If a team wants to make a trade on Thursday, they won’t be able to because it’s past the deadline.”

“I scored 2 goals tonight and everyone was very happy. Joe Colborne said I’m glad you have 17 goals and I said actually Joe it’s now 18.”

“I was signing a few autographs tonight and one of them looked like I wrote money ham. My name is Monahan not money ham, it was so funny,” reads another.

“Before tonight’s game Markus Granlund dropped his tape and it rolled down the dressing room floor, I gave it back to him and he said thanks.”

“Finland won bronze today and they’re really happy. The USA didn’t win bronze today, so they’re not as happy as the Finland team.”

“I’ve tried to find out for a long time now. I still think it’s Derek Smith, but I don’t know,” Monahan said. “It is funny and it doesn’t offend me at all ... We just joke around about it.”

So is there any chance the real Sean Monahan might be behind it?

“I don’t think he has that sense of humour yet, but he is actually a funny guy and he does have a similar type of humour, so that is why it works so well,” Colborne said. “We’ll figure it out soon enough.”
