But Subban snubbed as league announces rosters for Columbus showcase
NEW YORK — Montreal Canadiens star Carey Price is among 42 players named to participate in the NHL all-star game later this month in Columbus.
The league announced the remaining 36 all-stars who will join the six voted into the game by fans: the Buffalo Sabres’ Zemgus Girgensons and Chicago Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Corey Crawford.
Reigning Hart Trophy winner Sidney Crosby is set to make his first appearance since 2007, joined by Pittsburgh Penguins teammate Evgeni Malkin.
A few of this year’s MVP candidates — Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars, Roberto Luongo of the Florida Panthers and Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators — will be there, too.
The league’s leading scorer, Jakub Voracek of the Philadelphia Flyers, returns to Columbus where he spent his first three NHL seasons with the Blue Jackets.
Former Blue Jackets star Rick Nash, who has 25 goals for the New York Rangers, will get a homecoming, as well.
Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano, who’s tied for the league lead in points among defencemen, will make his first allstar game appearance.
Phil Kessel will represent the Toronto Maple Leafs, Bobby Ryan the Ottawa Senators, Radim Vrbata the Vancouver Canucks, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins the Edmonton Oilers and Dustin Byfuglien the Winnipeg Jets.
Habs defenceman P.K. Subban and Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson did not make it.
Every NHL team was represented among the 42 players.
Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and forwards Ryan Johansen, Nick Foligno will be there for the host Blue Jackets.
NHL all-star weekend goes from Jan. 23-25 in Columbus and includes the fantasy draft Friday night, skills competition Saturday and game Sunday.
