Scientists often toil away in their labs in relative obscurity. But in the opening pages of The Smart Palate: Delicious Recipes for a Healthy Lifestyle, a terrific new cookbook and a fundraiser for the Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre at McGill University, the centre’s scientists are identified and photograph­ed, with bushels of produce, honey and legumes.

Rosalind Goodman, who sadly did not live to see the book published, envisioned it as a way to honour the centre’s staff. The book is dedicated to them, and the research focus of each of the centre’s 25 scientists is described at the back of the book. Each of the scientists provides a recommende­d recipe from the book. Here are a few to try.
