What this means

Early in the Willie Desjardins era, the coach has not been shy about the things he loves.

Two big ones are Medicine Hat and loyalty. His players have embraced one of those things.

They appreciate Desjardins’ patience, especially when it comes to the lineup. But at this point, they may want to start thinking enough is enough.

The day started with Desjardins defending Chris Higgins, but ended with another no-show for the Canucks winger, who, to be fair, is one of several Canucks battling an illness.

Since Nov. 28, Higgins has two points. It probably should take more production than that to keep his slot on the second line locked down.

Jannik Hansen was flying Saturday. He showed more in one game than Higgins has in six weeks.

Hansen had seven shot attempts Saturday. Higgins had none.

For most of this season, Desjardins has been loyal to Higgins, keeping him paired with Nick Bonino.

The coach has not been rewarded.
