The beloved Green Men head off on their Farewell Tour

- Ryan Sullivan

Once upon a time way back in 2009, my good friend Force and I tried something as a joke and it caught on like wildfire.

It went from a few seconds on TV to an induction into the ESPN Hall of Fame, police escorts in Boston, BBC interviews, photos in People magazine, and Pepsi billboards.

The entire province embraced it, and now we’re hitting the road for one final chance to say thank you.

Force and I have been itching to visit some of the great hockey communities throughout B.C., and with the help of Pacific Coastal Airlines, our idea has come to fruition.

They laid out a map with more than 65 possible B.C. destinations and said, “Boys, where do you want to go?” We hand-picked 10 cities, and just like that, the tour was born.

This provincial run is about something much bigger than spandex though, it’s about a legacy and a lasting message to our fans. We want Canadians to look back on our time years from now and see that, while we always tried to help our team on the ice, we were even more dedicated helping our community off of it.

With the tremendous support of a few different charities, over the past five years we’ve been able to help raise more than $100,000 for some very worthy causes.

Now for our final farewell, we’ve teamed up with the Canadian Cancer Society to lend a hand once again, and raise money for something very near and dear to my heart.

Nine years ago, I lost my grandfather to kidney cancer. Now throughout this one last tour, I will finally get to honour his memory along with the thousands of other Canadians who have had to battle this illness.

So please help us raise as much as possible for the cause at each stop and at each game.

The Green Men have been the best story of our lives, and it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t get a chance to say thank you in person for all of your support along the way.

See you soon, B.C.!
