Airport traffic squeeze as outlet mall opens
As part of the opening-day festivities, a sculpture by local contemporary artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas was also unveiled.
With hundreds of shoppers expected to pack the outlet during its inaugural weekend, people headed to the airport are being warned of possible traffic changes in the area.
Those headed to the airport should remain in the left lane of Grant McConachie Way when nearing the airport. Shoppers headed to the McArthurGlen outlet can also take the Canada Line to Templeton Station, which is only a three-minute walk from the mall.
Travellers catching flights out of Vancouver International Airport are being advised to allow for extra time getting to the boarding gate following this weekend’s grand opening of the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet.
The designer outlet is on Sea Island off Grant McConachie Way. The outdoor mall, which features high-end shops like Coach, Armani, Polo Ralph Lauren, as well as more accessible brands like Gap, Sketchers and Nike, opened Thursday to hundreds of eager shoppers.
Among those on hand to mark the occasion were outlet general manager Robert Thurlow, Vancouver Airport Authority president and CEO Craig Richmond, MP Alice Wong, B.C.’s Minister of International Trade Teresa Wat and Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie.
