Man shot and killed by an RCMP officer identified as Hudson Brooks of Surrey

A man shot and killed by a Mountie Saturday in Surrey has been identified.

The B.C. Coroners Service said 20-year-old Hudson Brooks of Surrey died after being shot by police at around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday outside an RCMP district office in the 1800-block 152nd Street.

Investigators from the Independent Investigations Office have said police responded to reports of a suicidal male screaming outside the station.

RCMP say police rushed outside and spotted the man, a struggle ensued and he was shot by an officer.

The coroners service and the Independent Investigations Office are investigating.
