BLACKMORE, Leon

-

June 12, 1934 − July 17, 2015 We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our leader, mentor, and longtime dear friend, Leon Judah Blackmore (Schwartzman). Born on June 12, 1934 in Poland, his family fled with him to Canada where he called Winnipeg his home during his younger years. Eventually Leon moved to Vancouver where he continued his growth as a successful businessman. Leon was always on the hunt to make another "hit" just for the fun of it. He had a successful career as a real estate developer in Greater Vancouver and Victoria where he developed thousands of housing units for both the private and public sectors. We are all so very grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from and work for Leon in business and philanthropy. We will forever be proud to have been part of the Legacy he leaves behind, especially The Leon Judah Blackmore Foundation, which will continue its charitable giving to worthwhile and needy causes. Leon was always an extremely generous and caring person with a great sense of humour. He could always make you laugh. Leon is survived by his brothers, Abraham I. Schwartzman, Raphael Solomon Schwartzman, and Norman Z. Schwartzman. Leon will be forever missed and remembered by his companion Marlita Minor, his "keeper" Nicola Brailsford, Sybil Wai, and Bonnie Tse. Spencer and Riley will miss Uncle Leon’s colourful talks, as will his long time pals, Craig Sturrock, Ken Stinson, Bill Vander Zalm, and his many friends and acquaintances that he made along his life’s journey. Thanks are conveyed to the skillful team of doctors and nurses at the Vancouver General Hospital for their caring of Leon. For those who know Leon, you know he would say .......Got it? .....Next!
