Sunday’s four big games

-

1. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (6-5) AT MINNESOTA VIKINGS (8-3)

Win and the Vikings take another step toward winning the NFC North. In that event, the Seahawks might have to win out to make the playoffs. Both sides want to run and stop the run. Of Russell Wilson and Teddy Bridgewater, Seattle’s Wilson is by far the hotter and more efficient passer.

2. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (6-5) AT PITTSBURGH STEELERS (6-5)

In the Sunday night game, Matt Hasselbeck tries to set the record for most consecutive wins (five) by a 40-something QB as Andrew Luck continues to recover from a kidney laceration. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger appears recovered from the concussion suffered last Sunday at Seattle.

3. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (6-5) AT OAKLAND RAIDERS (5-6)

The Chiefs are rolling after their 1-5 start. As long as the K.C. defence can slow up Derek Carr and the high-octane Raiders attack, Alex Smith and the Chiefs should be able to keep pace. One of these games, though, the Chiefs are going to commit a turnover or two. Can they overcome?

4. NEW YORK JETS (6-5) AT NEW YORK GIANTS (5-6)

This battle of MetLife Stadium inhabitants would seem to give the Jets a slight edge. Eli Manning and the Giants’ offence have regressed and the Jets’ defence has performed considerably better than that of the Giants — especially lately. Then again, Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is overdue for a clunker after two good games.

Must-win Sunday

ATLANTA FALCONS (6-5)

They were 5-0 at one point. It has been the offence that has let this team down, especially QB Matt Ryan. The Falcons can’t get it going on both sides of the ball in the same season. Now the defence is better — go figure. Atlanta has to win at Tampa Bay, otherwise a wild-card playoff berth grows unlikelier.

Monday night football

DALLAS COWBOYS (3-8) AT WASHINGTON REDSKINS (5-6)

Top gunslinger Tony Romo is done for the year, so the Cowboys’ playoff chances have ridden off into the sunset. The Redskins are tied atop the NFC East behind the improved play of QB Kirk Cousins.
