Canadian sits ninth in Tour de Ski
After the first three events of the gruelling Tour de Ski cross country race, a tired and weary Alex Harvey remains in contention for the podium.
Starting seventh Sunday behind the leaders of the first two races, the St-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que. native battled to a ninth-place finish with a time of 24 minutes, 19.7 seconds in the men’s’ 10-kilometre pursuit race in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
“It was really tough today,” Harvey, 27, said. “I had a bad night of sleep and just didn’t feel good when I woke up. This was the hardest race of the year for me for sure. Given that, this is a good result.”
Modelled after the Tour de France in cycling, the Tour de Ski features eight races at four venues in three countries over a 10-day period. The Tour wraps up in Val di Fiemme, Italy Jan. 12 with a 425-metre climb to the top of Alpe Cermis.
On Sunday, Norwegian star Martin Johnsrud Sundby clocked a firstplace time of 21:44.7. His countryman Petter Northug skied to the silver-medal position at 23:09.9, while Finn Haagen Krogh completed the Norwegian sweep of the podium for the second straight day.
