SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF NEXT WEEK’S B.C. HOME + GARDEN SHOW

-

The B. C. Home + Garden Show is quickly approaching and again is offering a lineup of celebrity guests and a program that includes everything from cheesemaking to puppy pampering.

The show, which kicks off a fiveday run Feb. 17 at B.C. Place Stadium, will have upwards of 425 exhibitors and vendors this year and feature such notable presenters as Bryan Baeumler, star of HGTV’s House of Bryan; landscape designer Carson Arthur, star of the new HGTV series Home to Win; and lifestyle expert Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault, a regular Cityline contributor.

Here’s just a sampling of the mustsees at this year’s show:

Westcoast Smart Home

“If you’re dreaming of an easier, kinder way to build your dream vacation home, it’s here,” says a prepared release from the show. That’s their way of introducing the Westcoast Smart Home by Trinity Post & Panel Inc., a chic, energy-efficient, 810-square-foot bungalow made of post-and-beam construction.

Ultimate Upcycle Challenge: Planted

Consider placing a silent auction bid on one of 10 planters; they were created by Vancouver media personalities and bloggers using items from ReStore Vancouver and supplies from Rust-Oleum Consumer Brands Canada. And it’s all for a good cause: proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver.

The Cooking Stage

Listen to seminars and check out demos from notable city chefs. New to the Cooking Stage: Meet The Makers — here, the culinary pros will offer step-by-step instructions on cheesemaking, pickling, canning and preserving.

Ask a designer

Bring your paint swatches, flooring samples and design questions, and local pros will help you sort out your home style.

Among those design experts offering complimentary consultations will be Friendly Decorator’s Christine Friend.

Feature Gardens: Water Wise

“Our climate is changing, and so is our ability to cultivate lush, green gardens year round,” the home show release says. With that in mind, the show is giving visitors the chance to explore some 5,000 square feet of innovative greenscapes designed according to the principles of conservation and drought prevention. Among the elements: synthetic turf, self-contained recycled water features and innovative decking.

Barkitecture

In a bid not to leave Fido out of the picture, five local designers will try to transform a plain doghouse into a ‘pampered pooch palace,’ which will be up for silent auction. All proceeds will go to the BCSPCA.

The B.C. Home + Garden Show has been running since 1971 and has attracting more than 55,000 visitors each spring. For more information visit vancouverhomeshows.com.
