B.C.’s superinten­dent of motor vehicles says tougher penalties are on the way for those violating distracted­driving laws.

Sam McLeod says the province will announce tougher consequenc­es for distracted driving in early May.

McLeod says there’s a recognitio­n that the fines are too low in the province, and distracted driving is the No. 2 cause of fatal crashes.
