Sir Paul in Vancouver to film Pirates sequel
Paul McCartney will find himself in a whole new Octopus’s Garden when he shows up in Vancouver to join Johnny Depp for three weeks of filming on the latest Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.
Internet sites are humming with reports the ex-Beatle has signed on to play a so-far-unnamed character in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The action-fantasy — the fifth to star Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow — filmed for five months in Australia last year, ending in July.
Vancouver sources said the additional scenes are to be filmed on a pirate ship set built inside a massive hangar at North Vancouver’s Seaspan shipyards.
Filming was to start this week, wrapping April 13.
As to the whereabouts of the man himself, the 73-year-old McCartney was photographed by Britain’s Mail Online Sunday as he was vacationing on the Caribbean island of St. Barts with his wife Nancy Shevell.
The new scenes were apparently written expressly for Sir Paul, according to the website deadline.com.
The producers of the lucrative Disney franchise earlier wrote in a role for Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, who appeared in the third and fourth instalments playing Jack Sparrow’s father.
The upcoming movie also stars Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush and Javier Bardem, alongside younger cast members Kaya Scodelario and Brenton Thwaites.
The new movie comes out May 26, 2017.
McCartney’s having a busy year — he launches a North American concert tour April 13 in Fresno, Calif. The tour comes to Vancouver’s Rogers Arena for two nights April 19 and 20.
The Province was unable to confirm rumours that McCartney’s sojourn in Vancouver would also include practice time with his band for the tour.
