A little help from above

- — Marc Weber

Carl Robinson thanked his late father after Saturday’s comefrom-behind win over the Portland Timbers at B.C. Place. “It’s a special day for me today — my father’s birthday, ”Robinson said after a 2-1 victory. “I said, ‘Bring me some luck, Dad’ and he brought me some luck, with some help from the (Portland) goalkeeper as well.” Timbers’ goalie Jake Gleeson made a meal of Christian Bolanos’s winning goal but the Caps were full value for three points. Another birthday boy played a key role. Masato Kudo, who turned 26 on Friday, scored his first for the club. “I sent him a message last night (Friday) and he promised me he’d get a goal,” said Robinson. Robinson lost his father, Phil, to a sudden illness in 2010.
