Woman jailed in spouse’s death

A woman who beat her husband to death with a curtain rod after years of inflicting domestic violence on him has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. Nyuk Hwang, 55, had originally been charged with second-degree murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2013 death of her husband, Teck Hwang, 56. Before the husband’s death, Nyuk Hwang had been convicted of assault causing bodily harm. Justice Joanne Veit called it a “tragic situation” for the family, adding the couple’s adult son has a heavy pain to bear.
