Gumby is human. Chris Tanev has absorbed devastating hits — especially those along the end boards — and has usually just soldiered on. This time it’s different. After being struck in the upper back by a slapshot Friday and leaving the game, there was some thought that after being evaluated Saturday morning in Vancouver, he would hop a flight and get to the Saddledome in time to suit up. Not so. The injury isn’t considered serious, but if the rib-cage area was adversely affected by the blow, it could prolong his absence.
