Five facts: Are the Giants cruising for a bruising?

Will the boat party sink the Giants?

A small group of New York receivers held an epic boat party Monday with celebs off the coast of Miami. One report said party accelerants far stronger than candy were handed out “like candy.” Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said nope, nothing to see here: “The players were off. I’m not going to talk about the players and their off time. The showed up (Tuesday) ready to work. Had a good practice (Wednesday).” But did the trip — six days before a playoff game — cause a stir in the locker-room? And was it a slap in the face to the Packers’ depleted defensive backfield?

Big uglies battling in front of Rodgers

Packers offensive linemen might not run block particularly well, but they kept QB Aaron Rodgers upright most of the time down the stretch. He was sacked no more than once in four of Green Bay’s crucial final six games. New York’s D-line probably still will be without DE Jason Pierre-Paul (core muscle injury), but edge-rusher Olivier Vernon has been a consistent QB harasser with 8.5 sacks. And 343-pound Damon Harrison is a budding star inside. Great matchups across the board.

Eli and the Giants at Lambeau in January

A playoff assassin, New York QB Eli Manning has an 8-3 post-season record since entering the NFL in 2004. That includes two Super Bowl wins, of course. Those championship runs both included victories at Green Bay — 23-20 nine years ago and 37-20 five years ago to the day. Eli out-performed Brett Favre, then Rodgers. Watch out.

Can either team run it a lick?

The Packers rank 20th in rushing, the Giants 29th. Each would love to be able run it more than its meagre average. The team that can is likelier to win.

Bright, sunny and c-c-cold

Central Wisconsin’s deep cold snap is supposed to break by Sunday morning. Still, it’ll be far below freezing by kickoff. “Frozen tundra” and all that — decidedly unlike lounging on a party boat off the coast of Miami.
