recent move had the benefit of reuniting me with my wine cellar. Admittedly, after more than a year away from the collection of bottles, it was a happy reunion — the absence certainly made my heart (and tastebuds) fonder.
The reconvening served another important purpose: It invoked a realization that it was time to cull a number of bottles. Needless to say, it’s been fantastic fun opening more “mature” bottles these last few weeks, a tasty reminder of how holding on to wine is really rewarding. Here’s a great pairing! The olive oil and wines of southern Italy will come together from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 4 at Broadway International Wine Shop (2752 West Broadway, Vancouver). Along with a tutored olive oil tasting, a selection of Primitivo, Negroamaro and Fiano-Greco wines from the southern heel of Italy’s geographic boot will be on offer alongside Puglian canapés and appetizers.
