Tinhorn Creek 2006 Oldfield Series Syrah, B.C. ($31.99, available through the winery)

If memory serves, this was the inaugural release of the top-tier “Oldfield Series” Syrah from the venerable South Okanagan winery Tinhorn Creek. Upon release, only 340 cases were available at $35 a pop and prices appear to have stayed consistent. While the 2006 has shed some of its youthful powerhouse notes, the fruit is very much alive: Still heady and meaty, pouring a dense purple black with notes of dark berry and herbs subsumed by a sultry, peppery finish. It’s still strong after a decade plus. Bottom line: B+, Stalwart Syrah
