What we learned

-

Sven Baertschi suffered a neck strain Thursday in Arizona. He didn’t play Saturday and won’t play in the season finale at Edmonton on Sunday. His career season — 18 goals, 17 assists and 35 points in 68 games — is one of the few good stories in a bad season because the 24-year-old left winger has finally established himself as a Top 6 forward. We’ll hear of more injuries and off-season procedures when the season ends, but Brandon Sutter (wrist) and Jack Skille (ankle) won’t need surgery. Chris Tanev, who has laboured through three injuries and was first hurt early in the season, may need surgery on a wonky right ankle.
