Ford Escape and new EcoSport perfect for active BC lifestyle

THE ESCAPE OFFERS A WISH LIST OF AVAILABLE FEATURES AND TECH

- BY PETER KENTER

The Ford Escape has carved out a rugged niche for itself as the go-to SUV crossover for active Vancouver residents who love the outdoor lifestyle.

“Whether rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking, kayaking or fishing, this vehicle takes you where you need to go,” says Dave Michnik, Director of Sales, Lower Mainland operations, Coastal Ford. “It’s a great choice for driving inside the city or halfway across the province.”

Ford’s popular SUV workhorse continues to offer the power and interior spaciousness that adventurous drivers demand. But one size definitely doesn’t fit all. That’s why Ford offers three engine options, from economy to power-to-spare: the 2.5-litre iVCT in FWD Escape S; available 1.5-litre EcoBoost in the 4WD S and SE models; and the option of the new higher-performance 2.0-litre TwinScroll EcoBoost, which are standard in the Ford Escape Titanium and available in the Ford Escape SE.

The EcoBoost engine combines economy with a turbocharged boost. It’s light on fuel consumption while you’re sprinting across town, or cruising the highway at a light throttle setting. Better still, EcoBoost leverages Auto StartStop Technology to help reduce fuel consumption and vehicle emissions.

While the vehicle is stopped in traffic, the engine automatically shuts off, and restarts when you step on the accelerator or deactivate the brake pedal. Better still, the EcoBoost is fully capable of producing powerful torque to spare on command, so you can tow that camper trailer uphill with complete confidence.

The Ford Escape also offers a wish list of available automatic features and technology. These include adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support; an enhanced active park assist system, great for tight city parking spaces; a lane-keeping system; and a footactivated, hands-free automatic liftgate.

The Escape sport appearance package offers a look to match performance and an outgoing lifestyle, including many distinctive options. These include 19-inch black premium-painted aluminum wheels, black-bezel halogen projector headlights, black-tinted taillights and unique black front fender grilles.

New for 2018 is the Ford EcoSport, the Escape’s more compact SUV sibling.

With a prototype unveiled at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, this sporty SUV crossover is designed to be the perfect transportation for city types who embrace a life full of possibilities. Lighter on fuel than its big brother, the EcoSport has earned its stripes in foreign and overseas markets and now comes to North America with a fresh new spin, targeted to Canadian and U.S. buyers.

“But don’t let that athletic profile fool you,” says Michnik. “It’s more trim on the outside than the Escape, but the nimble EcoSport features a surprisingly spacious interior and goes anywhere that bigger SUVs dare to tread.”

Offering plenty of headroom and legroom, the EcoSport still provides plenty of space to stow your gear.

It’s also easy to go sporty. The EcoSport SE offers standard moon roof, heated seats, a six-way power driver’s seat, and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob as just a few of its features. It also offers Intelligent Access with pushbutton start, allowing you to open the doors and hatch or start the car without taking your keys from purse or pocket.

“With a new order hot off the desk, we’re preparing the showroom for the arrival of our first truckload of EcoSports,” says Michnik. “Expect to test drive the Ford EcoSport at Coastal Ford in early 2018, when we’ll be offering them for sale. We’ll be well-stocked with both the newest Escapes and EcoSports and will be happy to match drivers to the vehicle that best suits their active lifestyle.”
