THE GEEK’S GAME OF THE WEEK

Denver at Kansas City (-7.5)

-

It’s an incongruous situation. The Denver Broncos have one of the best defences in the NFL, but they might just be the worst team in the NFL. You only have to look back to last week, when they were blanked by the LA Chargers, the first time they’ve been shut out in a game since John Elway was the QB, the Greek was stuffing kokoretsi into his seven-year-old face, and their starting quarterback — Trevor Siemian — was just 11 months old. Last Sunday’s debacle ended a 394-game scoring streak, which was the longest current run in the NFL. All the fingers are being pointed at Siemian, and the calls are growing stronger for Denver to start Brock Osweiler. Yes, let that sink in. The guy they jettisoned, was cut by the Houston Texans, was cut by the Browns(!) and then re-signed as a third-string backup, is the player the fans want to start. When Siemian briefly left the game with a shoulder injury just before halftime, Osweiler came in and completed two passes, then kneeled out the half. That 48-second stint was enough for the Mile High Mob, who began the keening cries to start him under centre. “It was short-lived, but tried to step in there and do my job,’’ Osweiler said. “To be in that huddle and look them in the eye and go out there and play a couple plays was very special.’’ After the Broncos get pummeled this week — and they will — expect those cries to get even louder.

PICK: Chiefs

The Greek says: One of these teams will snap their losing streak, and it won’t be the impotent Broncos. PICK: Chiefs
