Aubrey of Maple Ridge Chrysler recognized as No. 1 fleet sales manager in Canada

MAPLE RIDGE CHRYSLER FLEET SALES TEAM SOLD MORE THAN 2,000 VEHICLES IN 2017

Dan Aubrey’s professional integrity combined with his sales expertise has helped Maple Ridge Chrysler become the Number One fleet sales dealer in Canada as well as the top Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealer in the country.

But don’t expect Aubrey, who manages fleet sales for the venerable dealership located just off the Golden Ears Bridge, to take any credit for it. Instead, he cites the Maple Ridge staff – everyone from owner Ian Speckman to the mechanics and even those who wash the cars – as the reason for the achievement.

He says, “So many components go into fleet sales that it would be unfair to single out an individual for attention. Maple Ridge Chrysler is Number One because of these people working together to achieve a common goal.”

Speckman agrees with this sentiment – but he insists Aubrey deserves a spotlight anyway. “Since joining us 10 years ago, Dan has exemplified the qualities we hold dear: in addition to working hard, he has the rare ability to listen to customers and respond to their needs – and he deals with them honestly, instead of merely telling them what they want to hear.”

Speckman goes on to explain, “Too often in this business salespeople over-promise; it’s something I’ve deliberately avoided since opening Maple Ridge Chrysler in 1985. Dan’s correct in crediting our staff, but we wouldn’t have become Number One without his guidance.”

For a company that has imbedded itself in the public psyche (“We’re closer than you think!” is a slogan recognizable to any Metro Vancouver motorist), becoming Number One nationally required Aubrey and his colleagues to sell 2,040 automobiles in 2017.

Aubrey will say only of the achievement, “Fleet sales are a good way to move inventory, but they’re also complicated to set up. For 2017, we were fortunate that our sales were made to all types of fleet buyers, from local governments and small businesses to large rental and fleet businesses with many different needs and requirements.”

Speckman isn’t surprised by how much inventory was moved in a relatively short time. “We’ve always done fleet sales, but Dan joined us when we were selling about 500 cars annually and thoroughly developed this opportunity,” he says. “In a similar vein, we used to sell about five or six heavy duty trucks yearly, but thanks to Dan’s hard work we now sell about 200.” All told, Maple Ridge Chrysler today has about 1,100 automobiles on the lot to choose from.

While Speckman, who presides over 140 employees, enjoys the status of being Number One, he values to a much greater degree the camaraderie of his workplace. “We treat each other like we do our customers: honestly and fairly, and as a result we have one technician who has been with us for 50 years and others who have been here 20, 30, 40 years and more,” he says.

As for his `newer’ fleet sales manager, Speckman says, “Dan prefers working rather that being in the limelight. But he busts his tail for us constantly, so this is our way of saying thank you.”
