One of my favourite small-ship cruise lines is introducing a series of brand-new overland packages in Alaska to complement its Alaskan cruises.

UnCruise Adventures has a total of seven new land packages on offer for its 2018 Alaskan cruise season, which runs from April through October. The line’s ships carry between 22 and 86 guests and offer up an immersive, casual and immensely enjoyable cruise experience that is 180 degrees removed from the standard big-ship experience in Alaska.

Now, guests can enhance their small-ship cruise experience with these new overland tours. They were developed in conjunction with Alaska Alpine Adventures, one of the State’s leading wilderness and exploration companies. Like UnCruise, Alaska Alpine Adventures specializes in small-group adventure travel throughout the state of Alaska.

These packages include the Kenai Alpine Adventure, a four-night pre-cruise tour available to guests departing aboard the petite Safari Quest between May 20 and August 30, 2018. Operating round trip from Anchorage, this overland tour includes overnight stays in Anchorage, Girdwood and Seward, along with an interpretive hike across the Kenai Fjords National Park icefields; a dogsled adventure with Iditarod mushers and dogs; and plenty of wildlife viewing, wilderness hikes, and mountain biking opportunities.

Another tour option, the five-night Chugach Mountains & Rivers Wilderness adventure, is available for guests sailing aboard Wilderness Adventurer or Wilderness Explorer on April 21 and 28, and May 5 and 12, 2018. This particular tour also includes overnights in Anchorage, Girdwood and Seward, along with guided hikes through the Chugach National Forest and Caines Head State Recreation Area, plus a visit to the Alaska SeaLife Center and a float down the Portage River.

“I have been exploring Alaska for more than 30 years and continue to find incredible new experiences to offer our guests,” said Dan Blanchard, CEO of UnCruise Adventures. “Alaska Alpine Adventures is a fantastic partner and teaming up with them will allow our guests to experience a different side of the area with everything from the rugged terrain of ice fields to the culture and precision of the Iditarod mushers.”

This season, UnCruise Adventures will offer 10 small-ship cruise itineraries in Alaska, with a total of 160 departures between April and October. If the thought of sailing on a big ship to Alaska doesn’t appeal, these intimate little ships showcase Alaska’s beauty by those who know it best.
