Trudeau not in touch with Canada’s current gun laws

-

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s recent Twitter post claiming that you don’t need a licence to purchase a gun in Canada shows how out of touch he and his Liberal Party are with Canada’s current gun laws.

It is illegal to buy a firearm in Canada without having a licence. Most gun stores won’t even let you touch a display firearm without you showing your licence first.

Double stacking an already existing law doesn’t make it work any better. Same goes for the point-of-sale record at any store. It’s already required by law. What is this measure doing that’s so different than what we have now? Are these records going to be kept by the RCMP instead of the stores?

Isn’t that, in fact, a gun registry? Chris Humphrey, Langley

OK with new gun laws

I am a hunter and I own several firearms. While I opposed the now-defunct long-gun registry, I see nothing wrong with the proposed new legislation.

The National Firearms Association position does not represent me or many others I know who own firearms. I would not be surprised to learn that their position is supported by the U.S. National Rifle Association. Wayne Fox, Lac La Hache

People can’t defy court

I am not trying to discourage protesting, but when people defy the court, the court must — and I say must — charge and convict them of contempt and have it recorded on their personal record, otherwise the court is a joke.

This then will give them a lifetime ban on ever travelling to the U.S. The American border agents don’t give a hoot whether the protest is right or wrong, their federal law trumps all. So the handful of protesters might want to rethink tying themselves to a fence and come up with a legal method to oppose the pipeline in our best-in-the-world Canadian democracy. Ditch the SUV, slow down

I sometimes question people who complain about the price of gasoline.

Other than when one needs a certain type of vehicle for work (for example, a gas-guzzling pickup equipped with a fuel tank and job box for the construction site) I find it difficult to swallow when one complains about the price of fuel while driving a fuel-inefficient vehicle in a fuel inefficient manner.

Most drivers do not need an SUV or sports car. Constantly speeding along with jack rabbit acceleration does not help your fuel efficiency. If you want to have some credi- bility when discussing fuel costs, drive a fuel-efficient vehicle and slow down. Mike Stewart, White Rock

Better take the bus

Any driver who feels threatened by a traffic camera should leave the car at home and take the bus.

There is no need to focus on the speedometer full time, look at the road ahead and take glances at your speedometer.

If there are bad road conditions and hazards ahead, your own common sense will tell you to slow down.

Brake pedal and common sense equals no speeding tickets. If you run a red light, you deserve a ticket.

Putin win no surprise

So Russian President Vladimir Putin won his country’s election by a landslide. Surprise, surprise, surprise!

The moral of the story? It’s not who votes, that counts. It’s who counts the votes.
