-

Naomi Campbell will be honoured with the Fashion Icon accolade at this year’s Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards.

The model will receive the prestigious prize at the ceremony on June 4 in New York.

The award has previously been presented to stars such as Kate Moss, Rihanna, Beyoncé, David Bowie and Pharrell Williams.

“It is truly an honour to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award,” Naomi told Vogue. “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”

The British model has enjoyed a career spanning decades, walking for the world’s biggest fashion houses, including Vivienne Westwood, Dior and Chanel. She was also the first black model to appear on the covers of French Vogue and Time.

“From enfant prodige to Goddess of Fashion. Naomi represents beauty, activism and joie de vivre,” CFDA Chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg said.

Diane will also receive an accolade on the night, being honoured with the Swarovski Award for Positive Change, while Carolina Herrera will be presented with the Founder’s Award in honour of CFDA founder Eleanor Lambert, British Vogue editor Edward Enninful will take home the Media Award, and Donatella Versace is the winner of the International Award.

The annual event recognizes the outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry and related arts, with awards being given for design excellence in womenswear, menswear and accessories.
