THE AUTO SHOW IS NOT ALL ABOUT NEW VEHICLES
Three vintage cars featured at the We Dream in Grayscale Display
As much as this week’s Vancouver auto show looks to the future of mobility — from electric vehicles to autonomous ones — it also celebrates our motoring past.
Nowhere will this be more evident on the convention centre floor than at the Vintage Showcase of 20 classics assembled from across the region as part of this year’s show.
Show organizers have teamed with Hagerty Insurance in the Sometimes We Dream in Grayscale display, featuring three special vintage cars in white, grey and black.
The white is a stunning 1963 Porsche 356B T6 1600 S Coupe, a vehicle that represents a status symbol among connoisseurs who know automobiles and appreciate fine points of design and craftsmanship.
For grey there’s a 1963 Mercedes-Benz 190 SLR. The beautiful 190 SL model was produced between May 1955 and February 1963, and was first shown as a prototype at the 1954 New York Auto Show. This particular 190 SLR is meticulously restored to period correctness.
And for black, a 1988 Lamborghini Countach, a true melding of art and machinery. The design was conceptualized by Italian design house Bertone, which pioneered and popularized the sharply angled Italian wedge design language. The DNA of the original Countach can be found within the design language of sports cars throughout the 1970s and into the 1980s.
