BILLS STILL COULD TRADE DOWN

- — John Kryk

ORLANDO, Fla. — Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane reiterated Monday at the NFL annual meeting that he hasn’t committed to the idea of trading up further in the draft’s first round, from No. 12.

He might even trade down, he said.

“I’m not going to get into any specifics, but right now we’re just going to focus on 12,” Beane said. “(We’re) excited to be at 12, and I think we’re going to get a really good player there.

“If we trade up (into the top 5), that means we feel really comfortable with what this player can bring to our team, and what they could do. Because it’s a premium to trade up into the top 5. That means we would feel real good about who that was … We wouldn’t do it not knowing we couldn’t get someone we were willing to go up there for.”

Beane said he would trade next year’s No. 1 pick to move up to if “it makes us a lot better, or if it’s a player that’s worthy” of so costly a transaction.

“Again, I know everybody’s

assuming we trade up. We could always go the other way, too, if it made sense for us. I’m really just going to do what’s in the best interests of the Bills.”

Beane added that his team has privately worked out

“at least three” of the top quarterback draft prospects, but wouldn’t identify any of them.
