A Surrey-based internet talk show host says her vehicle was shot at Saturday night and she believes her outspoken views have made her enemies.

Ashiana Khan, CEO of Media Waves Communication, which produces an internet radio show in Surrey, told Postmedia News that she was driving near 176th Street and Fraser Highway at 11 p.m. Saturday when she was the victim of a drive-by shooting.

“Because of the police investigation I can only confirm that yes, my vehicle was shot,” Khan said Sunday.

Khan said she wasn’t injured but phoned police immediately. Her car was towed by police and an investigation is underway, she said. Surrey RCMP did not respond to calls from Postmedia Sunday.

“I was very shaken up, very scared, but I am very strong and I have come out of it.”

Khan is in the fourth year of her morning talk show on the internet station. She says she is outspoken about issues in Surrey, politics and issues impacting the South Asian community. She was involved in organizing a June rally after two teens were fatally shot

She said her show is “full of truths and facts” and there are people who take offence to her views.

“Whatever is going on, if there is something wrong, I am very outspoken about that,” said Khan. “At this moment there are so many issues I’m discussing. It makes me an enemy to many people.”

Khan said she will report to work for her show as scheduled at 7 a.m. today.

When she signed off on Friday she told her audience that she was going to discuss how two B.C. men — both with criminal pasts — were given security clearance to attend the Muslim Eid ul Fitr celebration at Parliament Hill earlier this month. She wouldn’t identify the men by name.

She said when she hits the airwaves today, her message will be one of not backing down.

“I think it’s time for the community to wake up and get together. We have to be very strong,” she said. “We have to make sure things like this (shooting) are not going to stop us. We’re not going to fear.”
