Woman drowns in Rub­ble Creek

A 23-year-old Burn­aby woman is dead af­ter be­ing swept away in a strong cur­rent in Rub­ble Creek near Squamish on Sun­day.

Ac­cord­ing to Squamish RCMP, the woman and her com­pan­ion, a 27-year-old Sur­rey man, were hik­ing in Garibaldi Lake Pro­vin­cial Park when they stopped to cool down in Rub­ble Creek and were swept away by a fast-mov­ing cur­rent just be­fore 3 p.m.

The man was able to get to shore with mi­nor in­juries. The woman was found dead about 800 me­tres down­stream.

“Squamish RCMP, as well

as the search-and-res­cue teams from the Squamish area, have seen far too many tragic in­ci­dents over the past few months,” said RCMP Cpl. Sascha Banks.

The death comes the same month as two other ac­ci­dents with sim­i­lar cir­cum­stances.
