Woman drowns in Rubble Creek
A 23-year-old Burnaby woman is dead after being swept away in a strong current in Rubble Creek near Squamish on Sunday.
According to Squamish RCMP, the woman and her companion, a 27-year-old Surrey man, were hiking in Garibaldi Lake Provincial Park when they stopped to cool down in Rubble Creek and were swept away by a fast-moving current just before 3 p.m.
The man was able to get to shore with minor injuries. The woman was found dead about 800 metres downstream.
“Squamish RCMP, as well
as the search-and-rescue teams from the Squamish area, have seen far too many tragic incidents over the past few months,” said RCMP Cpl. Sascha Banks.
