It’s not easy wearing green
French label Sandro has found a new muse for a special collection — Kermit the Frog.
The Muppets character’s face adorns sweaters, scarves and bags, among other items, in the 30-plus piece mother-and-daughter capsule aimed at women and five to 10-year-olds, with his green hue also inspiring garments, like a pair of fuzzy mules.
“As a frog who usually works naked, it’s not every day I get to be part of a high fashion collection. I really enjoyed going to Paris and working with Evelyne and her team at Sandro, who not only created wonderfully fun fashion, but repeatedly saved me from becoming an appetizer at Cafe Cuisses de Grenouilles,” Kermit joked to The Hollywood Reporter.
To celebrate the collaboration there will be a Sandro pop-up store in South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, California, which opens its doors on Oct. 1 for 10 days only.
Label founder Evelyne Chetrite explained why she turned to the lovable frog for her latest venture.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Kermit and all of the Muppets for many years,” she smiled. “I watched the show as a child on TV and now my children follow them on Instagram. We have different reference points, but we all love their spirit, joy and fun attitude.”
And of the new Sandro pieces she added: “We embroidered, knitted or printed his images on pieces including knits, T-shirts and accessories mixed with Sandro’s vintage-inspired and androgynous esthetic.”
Prices range from $72 to $424, and will also be available to buy online.
