Woman found dead in home is city’s 15th homicide
An 80-year-old woman found dead in her east Vancouver apartment is Vancouver’s 15th homicide of the year.
Around 8 a.m. on Saturday, Vancouver Police received a 911 call after the woman was found dead in her home near Kingsway Avenue and Kerr Street.
According to investigators and the B.C. Coroners Service, there are signs the death is suspicious and it is now being treated as a homicide.
“It is still very early in this investigation and our homicide unit is collecting information to help determine motive and who may be responsible,” said Const. Jason Doucette. “While our officers continue to piece together what took place, we are reminding the public to report suspicious behaviour to 9-1-1 immediately.”
Police are now seeking dashboard camera footage from anyone who may have been in the area of Kingsway and Kerr on Saturday morning between midnight and 6 a.m. Investigators are also hoping to speak with anyone who may have spotted something suspicious.
Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact police at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-2228477.
