Woman arrested after newborn found in trash

A newborn baby found abandoned in a dumpster outside a Mission daycare centre remains in hospital listed in critical condition.

The baby girl was found early Friday afternoon in the 3300-block of Prentis Avenue near the Heritage Park Childcare Centre.

Mission RCMP Insp. Annette Fellner says a 21-year-old woman was arrested but later released.

“No charges have been laid at this time,” said Fellner. “This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.”

Fellner wouldn’t reveal how the baby was found or who found her. “Since there is an active ... investigation, no further details will be released at this time,” she said.

The staff at the Heritage Park Childcare Centre aren’t talking either. “We’ve been told by the police not to comment,” a worker at the daycare told Postmedia News.
