Proportional representation OK only at the federal level
I believe there are merits to both first past the post and proportional representation. However, I believe that PR is more appropriately utilized at a federal level, where global party ideals and philosophy are voted for at a national level; what the country stands for; foreign policy, economy, national health, trade, transportation etc.
Provincially, local interests are more important. We need to know who we are voting for to represent our community at a provincial level. PR comes down to voting for a party not a local representative. The models described suggest many of the MLAs will be appointed.
I am for PR at the federal level, but provincially we are better represented by the existing first-past-the-post voting system. Jacqueline DuPont, Lumby
