Honda revives Passport name for new-model SUV
Honda is building a new SUV with an old name to fit in between the CR-V and the Pilot. It’s been hit with the Passport badge, a name not seen since 2002.
Teaser images and video don’t show much of the design of the new vehicle, but do demonstrate the Passport is more off-road-capable, which falls in line with Honda’s “adventure-ready” idea for the model.
“The new Passport is a more personal, powerful and off-road-capable SUV that hits the sweet spot between daily driving comfort and weekend off-road, all-weather adventure capability,” said Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice-president of American Honda Motor Co.
The video, which can be seen at Driving.ca, has a pretty intense soundtrack for something parents are going to buy to take the kids to school in, but it gets the point across.
Powertrain options were not discussed, but we’re assuming they’ll fall in line between the CR-V and the Pilot, and be built around some form of turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
Designed, developed and built in America at Honda’s plant in Lincoln, Alabama, the new 2019 Honda Passport will debut at the L.A. auto show at the end of November, where we hope to learn more about the interior, powertrain and towing capabilities.
